Your local opportunity for a little recreation and social gathering. We are always looking for budding Bowlers wanting to play either socially or taking part in games against other teams in the area.

When can you play?

The season runs from the start of April till mid September.

Practice sessions are generally run on Tuesday mid afternoon and evening subject to weather. If you are interested in finding out more or joining our club, you are always welcome to come along to a Tuesday practice session. All ages 12 and upwards are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a responsible Adult.

How much does it cost to join?

There are 2 classifications of bowler:

Social Bowlers - Do not play in league matches, but can play on our green at anytime when no league match is in progress. Social bowlers can either pay £1 per occasion or an annual subscription of £15.
Team Bowlers - Participate in league games throughout the season and can play on our green at anytime when no league match is in progress. Team bowlers pay a one-off lifetime registration fee to Yorkshire Bowls of £20. In addition, there is an annual club subscription of £25 + £1 levy to Yorkshire Bowls.

For all new bowlers a £10 refundable deposit is required for a set of keys providing access to the green and main cabin.

*NB prices are correct as of 2026, but are reviewed annually at the AGM.

What Leagues can you Join?

We have 2 teams known as Stanley A and Stanley B.

We play league games as follows:

Monday: 13:00 to 16:00 - Wakefield VETS (Over 60 only) - Both A & B Teams

Wednesday: 18:30 to 21:00 - Wakefield Workshops - Both A & B Teams

Thursday: 18:30 to 21:00 - Ossett & Horbury - Both A & B Teams

Saturday: 13:00 to 1600 - Saturday League - only 1 team so may be home or away

To find out more about what games we are playing, when and where, please initially go direct to one of our Leagues at VETS - Workshops - Ossett & Horbury or Saturday.

The League can then be saved for future access by choosing "User info" at the top left and then setting "My Bowlsnet" and optionally selecting a team.

Once Leagues have been selected and saved you can simply pick from these at the Bowlsnet website.

Club Meetings

The Committee is made up of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Safeguarding Officer, a Bowlers Representative as well as all Team Captains.

The club will hold several meetings throughout the year:

Pre-AGM for Committee Members only. Held towards the end of the year - last date 13:00 3rd Dec'25 @ Clubhouse, this meeting discusses what items will be covered at the AGM.
AGM for all Bowlers, both League and Social. Held early in the year - last date 19:15 4th Mar'26 @ Lofthouse WMC, this meeting covers a review of the previous season, club updates, new season dates and confirming Leagues in which Bowlers intend to participate. Anyone interested in joining the club is welcome to attend the AGM.
Ad-hoc and other Committee only meetings may be held should circumstances arise.
